Seasurface.com Records Amazing Current Structures off NSW Coast.

Click image to see more detailed version On the afternoon of the 29th December Seasurface.com recorded images showing amazing details in the Eastern Australian Current (pictured to the right). A pronounced current of 26° water streaming down the NSW coast swings more than 300km out to sea off Wollongong and then curves back to the coast again. As it mixes with the cold water streaming up the coast, it then forms a tight eddy off Eden.

If you click on the image you can see a much more detailed version.

Off Sydney and Port Stephens the temperature gradients show the temperature changing as much as 4-5° (22° to 26°) over very short distances creating ideal conditions. Similar conditions occur off Eden but the temperature on the cooler side of the gradient starts at 18° and goes to 23°.
